    The famous ruby slippers were meant to be silver at first (like they are in the source novel) until MGM chief Louis B. Mayer realized that the Technicolor production would benefit from the slippers being colored.

    *Four uncredited directors were also involved in production, namely George Cukor (said to be responsible for much of Dorothy’s look), Marvin LeRoy, Norman Taurog and King Vidor.
